The Golden Life - Dr. SJS

The Golden Life

The Golden Life was written by Dr. Shawn J. Singletary (Dr. SJS). This was provided during a sesion that Dr. SJS provided to the parents of The Golden Fold (TGF) which was warmly received. On the 2/23/13 session of TGF the Young Leaders ended the session with reciting the statement and became part of our ritualistic closing for TGF.

The Golden Life:
“The focus of my life starts with loving my God, and ends with loving myself; and I will share the love of God with everyone in between.
I will maintain the highest levels of integrity and personal character.
I will treat others in the manner I want to be treated.
I will agree to disagree without being disagreeable.
I will honestly evaluate myself, and I will seek to increase my positives, and decrease my negatives.
I will strive for excellence in all areas of my life, and I will continue to grow and seek after knowledge.
I will never think so highly of myself that I cannot accept constructive criticism.
I will be accountable for my actions.”
Dr. SJS

Happy Holy Days 2012

We Breathe Success,

Happy Holy Days,

Today the Young Leaders of The Golden Fold participated with the men of the Gamma Xi chapter as we distributed Christmas Baskets to needy families. One of our Young Leaders noted that he realized that the recipients were mainly low-income women. That bothered that Young Leader. His realization that he was bothered showed growth. Today was truly about growth.

Our session began with the recent Achievement Week Essay writer, Marcus Mitchell, speaking with some of our Young Leaders while they sat in a few cars waiting to depart to serve. His essay detailed his position on the benefits of a college education. He is preparing to truly understand his position. He currently has numerous colleges who are working to recruit him to their college. He's a great football player, and he is a greater honor roll student. The world is his oyster. His proud Omega Father, Mike Mitchell, couldn't be prouder. The Young Leaders enjoyed his discussion about being serious about school and abstaining from alcohol use.

We then traveled to the neighborhoods of Twin Canals and Friendship Village to distribute the baskets. The families were enthralled with the sight of Men, particularly the Young Men, doing this work. One lady sadly noted "This neighborhood needs more Young Men like this. We need more Men like this." While we don't know if our Young Leaders fully interpreted the weight in the lady's admission, our Young Leaders walked out of that house with a glow. The glow of the light of the Christmas season. During Christmas we celebrate that a gift was given that changed the world. Today our Young leaders gave gifts that changed lives, and possibly the Young Leaders will share in the change. Happy Holy Days.

There is no session this week. Ignore the previous notice !

12/13/2012
Breathe success,
It seems that our calendar program's statement seems a little misleading. We only meet on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays unless we have a special session. We will fix the calendar to provide a better reminder message. Our next session is 12/22/12 and we will be distrubuting Christmas Baskets to the needy. We will also meet on 12/29/12 at the Kwanzaa celebration in Virginia Beach. We aplogize for any difficulty this may have called.
