Today's session focused upon our Lamplight Principles of Endurance & Uplift. Omega Brother Nathan Woodard spoke of Endurance using the term Perseverance which is a principle of Omega Men. Omega Brother Seko VArner taught a workshop on basic strategies towards Uplifting one's Financal situation. The Men of S.A.A.B. provided guidance and a sense of challenge for the young men who attended. It is expected that these young men will be better leaders in their communities and in their families. We are Big-Brothers who are building the leaders of tomorrow ! It was also resolved during the session that The Golden Fold will open it's doors to allow the female peers of our current leaders to benefit from this experience begining in Jan. 2012 ! More details to follow !
The Golden Fold Mentor Movement serves boys aged 11 – 18 by providing seminar based Big-Brother-type activities in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Participants enjoy a structured, supervised Big-Brother relationship with men of the community who have guidance, and life experiences to share with the youth. We employ a Bonding-Presentation-Guidance model in most sessions. Contact: thegoldenfold @ yahoo (dot) com or call/text message 757-353-7008. The Golden Fold is a "Brothers and Others" Community Improvement activity of the Gamma Xi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi and an Social Action project of the Men of S.A.B.B. of Virginia Beach's Tidewater Community College.
Our Lamplight concepts are Sound Adulthood (Responsible Manhood, leadership, and being morally based), Scholarship (Financial savy, Political awareness, and being coachable), Endurance (being unwavering, becoming and remaining self motivated), and Uplift (increasing one’s physical, mental, and spiritual strength while improving ones self, family, and community). Our Lamplight icons are Dr. William Cosby – Omega Psi Phi (Sound Adulthood), Arturo Schomberg – Kappa Alpha Psi (Scholarship), Thurgood Marshall (Endurance), and Dr. Martin Luther King – Alpha Phi Alpha (Uplift).
