09/08/2012 The Golden Fold Session

Today our session was a great planning session. Three of our steady Young Leader participants became members of The Inner Circle. These Inner Circle Leaders will aid the steering committee in the continued development of The Golden Fold as youth advisers. Our next session will be our final planning sessions for the Program Year. In October we will open our doors and start anew ! Our Inner Circle members also viewed the 1st segment of the three part movie "Cosmic Slop". The segment that was viewed is called "Space Traders" which allowed the Inner Circle to realize how a room full of men have been able to make decisions that impact the masses. This year is gonna be the bomb.

Our Session's Structure

We employ a Bonding-Presentation-Guidance model in most sessions. Here is our basic structure:
3:30 Prep - Mentors and program staff arrive and prepare for the mentees
4:00 Bonding - Mentees arrive. Mentors should engage the mentees in 1:1 or small group conversation.
The conversations are not guidance, show showing interest and developing a bond in the mentees.
4:30 Presentation #1
4:42 Presentation #2
5:00 Guidance - Group Session
5:30 Ending

Duties:
Mentees show up and enjoy the benefits of interactions with adult men who provide mentorship activitites in a structured and supervised enviroment.

Presenters speak in their area of focus for 10 - 12 minutes. The message and presentation should be fun, involving, and motivational if possible.

Facilitators run the show. They tell the mentors what to do, make sure that mentors are speaking 1:1 to the mentees when they arrive in the session, direct the assembly to sit down for the presenters, introduce the presenters, break the group into two or more groups for the group discussions, and tell everybody when to go home.

Group Leaders run the groups when that time comes.

Mentors simply follow the directions of the Facilitator and interact with the mentees.

Supervisors are mentors who have a confidential additional responsibility of monitoring the activities of all assembled during and immediately following the sessions to ensure a safe enviroment.

We do not provide an asigned mentor to a mentee format. Our mentors do not engage the programs' mentees in meetings outside of our sessions. Mentors, program staff, presenters should never provide their contact info' to a mentee or take contact information from a mentee. If a mentee or their parent requests such a connection refer them to Program Developer or Program Adminsitrator and they will handle the decision and further contact from that point.
