2-23-2013 ! Today was Golden. Today's session utilized the Bonding-Guidance-Activity model.
The Bonding portion of todays session of The Golden Fold (TGF) ended up with the Young Leaders teaching each other, and the Omega-Men-Mentors, the online Computer Game named MineCraft. The Omega-Men-Mentors were also introduced to the Paul Wall dance and music of Fort Minor.
The On 6/23/2012 Brother Seko developed TGF's seven leadership pillars named the 7 Golden Pillars. Today he released the 7 Golden Pillars (7GPs) to the group. We began the Guidance portion of today's session with a discussion on the 7GPs. Each of the young leaders shared their take on the 7GPs, followed by the group developing ways they might personally improve their strengths and abilities in the 7GPs. Here are the 7GPs:
1. Readers are Leaders.
2. Speakers are Leaders.
3. Fighters are Leaders.
4. Thinkers are Leaders.
5. Brave-hearts are Leaders.
6. Listeners are Leaders.
7. Uplifters’ are Leaders.
Our Young Leaders will be memorizing the 7GPs and using them in many of our forthcoming sessions.

Interestingly enough the 1st GP led the group into a discussion of the European Gypsies and the event called the Holocaust (the years of 1933 - 1945) which affected the European Jews. This discussion surfaced following a sharing of the books-of-choice that our Young Leaders have been independently choosing and reading. As a Black History Month note, the Young Leaders also learned that (1) the name Gypsies was derived from the Greek name 'Egypt' (Which means land of the burnt-face or sun-kissed people) of the African country which was originally called Kemet; and (2) The discussions and presentations of The Holocaust normally ignore the Black/African Jews (Beta Isreal and others) who faced a similar Holocaust during the time of the recognized Holocaust (the years of 1933 - 1945) when Benito Mussolini invaded the African country and people of Ethiopia. (Please find the supporting information below). For more of the Black History that our Young Leaders are exposed to visit the following link to Brother Seko's blog 'Fun-Family-FREEdom':
The Activity portion of the session continued the last sessions activity using the board game Taboo as a tool to aid the Young Leaders to become fluent and comfortable with public speaking (speakers are leaders), critical thinking (thinkers are leaders), and critical listening (listeners are leaders). Taboo is a great game and was played in our last session to develop the same skills. For those unfamiliar with the game Taboo consider this: "Can you get your team to say Brain Freeze? What if you can’t say Ice
Cream, Headache, Eating, Cold or Fast? Not so easy now, is it? Because
in this game, the obvious clues are strictly taboo." (from the webpage: http://www.hasbro.com/shop/details.cfm?R=AD4902E9-5056-900B-1073-EAB639BF818E:en_US&product_id=28842&src=endeca).
We ended the session instituting the use of reciting "The Golden Life" statement (which was developed by TGF Leadership Guru and mentor Dr. Shawn J. Singleton) at the end of the session. Here is our newly crowned 'Golden Life Statement': (note the photo of our Leadership Guru Dr. SJS)
The Golden Life:
“The focus of my life starts with loving my God, and ends with loving myself; and I will share the love of God with everyone in between.
I will maintain the highest levels of integrity and personal character.
I will treat others in the manner I want to be treated.
I will agree to disagree without being disagreeable.
I will honestly evaluate myself, and I will seek to increase my positives, and decrease my negatives.
I will strive for excellence in all areas of my life, and I will continue to grow and seek after knowledge.
I will never think so highly of myself that I cannot accept constructive criticism.
I will be accountable for my actions.” - Dr. SJS
The Golden Life statement is followed by the Young Leaders doing their ceremonial Basket-Ball Team prayer huddle ending with yelling "Breathe Success.......BLEED GOLD."..........Indeed.
We look forward to our 3/9/13 session when we host our first conference entitled "The Leaders of The New School !" at the Boys and Girls Club in Virginia Beach from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. This session is open to all males in the grades 6th - 12th and their adult friends and family members.
SEE YOU THERE !

The English term gipsy or gypsy[12] The English term Gypsy originates from the Middle English gypcian, short for Egipcien. It is ultimately derived from the Greek Αἰγύπτιοι (Aigyptioi), via Middle French and Latin. It was once believed that the Romanies, or some other Gypsy groups (such as the Balkan Egyptians), originated in Egypt, and in one narrative were exiled as punishment for allegedly harboring the infant Jesus.[13]
&
In 1935 armed forces of the Kingdom of Italy headed by the fascist leader Benito Mussolini invaded and occupied Ethiopia. Ethiopia officially surrendered in 1936. The Italian regime showed hostility towards the Jews of Ethiopia. The
racial laws which were enacted in Italy were also applied to Italian
East Africa. Mussolini attempted to reach an agreement with Britain
which would recognize Italian East Africa, during which Mussolini
proposed to solve the "Jewish problem" in Europe and in Palestine by resettling the Jews in the north-west Ethiopian districts of Gojjam and Begemder along with the Beta Israel community.[87][88] The proposed Jewish state was to be federally united with the Italian Empire. Mussolini's plan was never implemented. When the State of Israel was established in 1948 many Ethiopian Jews began contemplating emigrating to Israel. Nevertheless, the Emperor Haile Selassie refused to grant the Ethiopian Jewish population permission to leave his empire.&
Taboo is a word guessing party game published by Hasbro in 1989.[1] The objective of the game is for a player to have his/her partner(s) guess the word on his/her card without using the word itself or five additional words listed on the card.
